Large numbers attend ApacheCon Europe 2000
The Apache Software Foundation announced today that over 1200 Apache and Open-source followers registered for last week's ApacheCon Europe 2000 in London.
The number of visitors to the conference, held between 23-25 October, exceeds the number that attended the US ApacheCon 2000 in Orlando, Florida in March.
The event -- Europe's first dedicated entirely to open-source issues -- was sponsored by Covalent Technologies, IBM, Sun Microsystems and Oracle, and served to provide a focus for the open-source developer community in the region.
Highlights of the conference were keynote speeches from luminaries like Dr. Kristof Kloeckner, director of IBM's Hursley Park laboratory; George Paolini, vice president of Sun's Technologies Advocacy and Community Development, and Douglas Adams, author of The Hitchhikers Guide.
ApacheCon will return to Europe in the fourth quarter of 2001. The next ApacheCon, meanwhile, is scheduled for Santa Clara, US, from 4-6 April 2001 at the Santa Clara Convention Centre, California.
