Linux aficionados looking to convert their past-time passion into full-time employment may have a new opportunity to do so, following Red Hat’s decision to expand its Australian-based technical support team.

Red Hat will be holding its first Australian recruitment fair in Brisbane on Thursday with the aim of enlisting new employees for its Brisbane-based, Asia-Pacific support team.

The vendor is looking to hire four technical engineers to provide technical support to its customers as part of its Global Support Services Organisation. Red Hat is also keen to employ a technical translator fluent in traditional Chinese to the Brisbane team.

The recruitment fair will be held at Ballroom South, Sheraton Brisbane Hotel, 249 Turbot Street Brisbane from 4 - 7pm and will consist of a short presentation on the company, as well as interviews with potential candidates.

According to Red Hat, those interested in applying for a technical support engineer position will require the following skills:

  • Ability to obtain new skills.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Good multi-tasking skills.
  • A desire to be part of a dynamic team with great attitude.
  • Understanding of Operating Systems especially Linux, programming languages and Software Engineering.
  • Knowledge and experience in support or troubleshooting, debugging, tools and configuration of different applications.
  • Understanding of installation, networking, firewall, security, clustering, web servers, and any database.

Those interested in the technical positions but unable to make it to the fair on Thursday need not fear: Red Hat says further expansion of the Brisbane support team is planned for later this year.
