iiNet boosts broadband download allowances
Broadband service provider iiNet has revamped its bliink ADSL broadband product offerings, introducing bigger peak download limits across all of its home broadband plans.
From 1 August, all users on the existing bliink 128 product with 128Kbps access speed will be upgraded to the bliink 256lite plan, doubling both the monthly download allowance limit and service access speed. Customers will now get 1GB worth of downloads during peak time, as well as 1GB worth of downloads in off peak periods at a maximum access speed of 256Kbps.
Other types of account holders will also benefit from the new changes. Those on the regular bliink 256 plan, for example, will have their download limit during peak times increased from 2GB to 3GB and their off peak limit increased from 4GB to 6GB per month. Bliink 512 customers will see their peak download quotas each month jump up from 6GB to 10GB, while heavy Internet users on the bliink 1500 plan will get an additional 6GB of downloads during peak times.
As well as download changes, iiNet has announced overall modifications to its ADSL service, including adding an extra hour to its bliink (off peak) time. Bliink time will now be from 12 a.m. to 8 a.m., instead of 12 a.m. to 7 a.m.
The ISP says it will continue to shape account speeds for users who exceed their download limits per month, instead of charging excess usage fees. Currently, users who exceed their quota can continue to download data at a reduced speed of 72Kbps. Come 1 August, however, users who then hit 50 per cent of their peak or off peak quota in excess downloads over a consecutive 30-day period will have their access speed further reduced to 33Kbps.
Other new features across all of iiNet’s bliink ADSL product range include direct debit billing payment options, as well as a new option to remove port automatic blocking to allow users to hook up mail and Web servers. A $69 disconnection fee for users who wish to cancel their ADSL with iiNet within the first six months of signing up will also be introduced.
