Lexmark to offer Linux inkjet printer driver
Lexmark International today announced the first-ever Linux driver developed by a manufacturer for colour inkjet printers.
Linux users can now integrate colour inkjet printing into their computing system for consumer and SOHO based printing. The offering will be available for the Lexmark Z52 and Z32 Colour Jetprinters.
The new Lexmark driver integrates into a Linux-based PC for general purpose printing functions. The driver currently supports the Red Hat, SuSE, and Mandrake distributions, covering a large sector of the Linux market according to analyst firm IDC.
"Lexmark is committed to making its advanced inkjet technology accessible to all consumers. Earlier this year we created our first line of Mac compatible inkjets, and the new Linux driver is one more example of how we are continuing to expand our compatibility to meet the diversifying needs of our customers," said Stephen Waugh, General Manager of Lexmark's Consumer Printer Division, South Asia.
With this driver introduction, Lexmark now offers extensive support for Linux printing, ranging from the sub-$200 colour inkjets to multifunction devices n such as the OptraImage W810s.
