Melbourne is the only city so far to register interest in hosting linux.conf.au 2008.

The Melbourne bid page can be found at http://www.mel8ourne.org/.

Bids for the event need to be submitted by June 30. A decision will be made on July 31, 2006, according to James Purser, committee member Linux Australia.

Melbourne's Monash University hosted the first ever Linux Conference, called CALU 99, the Conference of Australian Linux Users, in July, 1999.

This year's event was held outside the country in Dunedin, New Zealand. Next year it will be held in Sydney.

More info can be found at http://linux.org.au/conf/.
